After deciding on my story, the next step for me was to look at tonnes of illustrations, and choose ones that caught my eye, here is one of the first one that really stood out to me:
This is a photograph i took of the illustration i found in one of the Black Books for the Art Director, in our university library.
This images really stands out to me, as i love the clever use of colour that directs the eye to the main character, and the shadow has an atmospheric effect that adds, to what is clearly a drawing, a sense of time of day, and sets the character in the scene. Makes it more real . Another thing that i really like about it is the fact you can see pencil lines, giving the illustration a handmade feel, which i want to achieve in my animation. Here is another image, by the same illustrator:
My photos taken in a rush, really do not do these illustrations any justice, and unfortunately a quick Google image search didn't render any better results. But they are still wonderful. I love the use of colour, again, in this illustration The composition is also great, and both these works have an eerie atmosphere that i find very intriguing.
