The Story

The idea for this film was inspired by a Georgian folktale, that my mom use to read to me, as a child. It stayed in my memory and seemed like perfect material for an animated adaptation.  Here’s my version of that story:

In a time long gone, in a forest far far away, there lived a fox and a bear. On nights when the moon was full, the fox would set out on a forest path to a chicken farm, where he would steal some hens for dinner. Out of respect and fear of the Big Forest Bear, the fox always shared his catch.

Such was life as they knew it, until one night, when things started to go wrong on his hunt; the fox panicked and settled for a basket of eggs instead of a hen. On his way home, fox thought of a plan, that would save both himself and the Bear from hunger, and decided to raise hens out of the eggs he stole. Disappointed and angry at the sight of the egg basket, the bear was only reassured, once he heard of the fox’s plan.
Back in his forest dwelling the fox set on the egg basket keeping it warm, until three little chicks hatched. The chicks, naturally, thought of the fox as their mother, and treated him as such.  As time passed, without realising it the Fox grew so fond of the three little chicks, he started raising them as his own, read them bedtime stories, took them for walks in the forest, and his plan to eat them was all but forgotten.
That was until the big forest Bear came to remind the fox of the promise he made.
Sheer terror gripped our fox as he thought of his children being eaten by the bear, so he sent the bear to fetch some dinner ingredients from the forest, to buy himself some time for a new plan.
Short of time, the fox grabbed his children and ran to the only place he knew they’ll be safe again, back to the chicken farm.
Overwhelmed by having her chicks back at the farm safe and sound and hearing of the predicament the Fox got himself into, the thankful Mother hen, comes up with a new plan, but will it work to save the Fox from the Bear…?

I’ve intentionally left the ending out, I’ll be posting it at a later stage, keep reading to find out J
