At this point it's worth mentioning that, as well as using loads of handmade paper textures i want to explore, how to make the backgrounds of the animation in pop-up book style, so after doing some research at the library i found this amazing book, called "Paper engineering for pop-up books and cards" by Mark Hiner, which had very good examples of basic pop-up techniques, and i thought it had very clear instructions so i made all of the pop-ups in one afternoon,(move your mouse cursor over the image to see them move) here are the examples:
This is called the multiple layers pop-up and it consists of multiple layers of paper, that are parallel to one or the other side of the page, depending on the contour of the paper you can make anything that way even a forest scene which is mainly my area of interest.
This mechanism is called floating layers, the page is opened to 180 degrees and lies flat, with some floating layers above the main page. This is good for a birds-eye view type of shot, but also if opened vertically could once again represent just a wide shot of some scenery.
A truly three dimensional pop-up that opens up to form a square in the middle of the page, although it looks wonderful i don't yet imagine how i can use it in a scene, possibly a detail?
This seems perfect for my need to create a three dimensional, multi-plane forest scene, receding in the background create some perspective, i can easily imagine how this would be adapted to form a woodland scene.
This could be great to add some fun detail to the background
And this one is one of my favorites, i can imagine changing the sky from day to night, using this techniques, or changing seasons from autumn to winter and etc. I think it would look great.
